CLC Trip to the Detroit Grand Prix

Belle Isle

August 30,  2008

George, Paul, Bill, Doug, Denny, Jim G, Jim V, Chuck, Nancy and her son Nelson all met at Alex’s for a 6:00am breakfast and headed to Belle Isle on Saturday, August 30, 2008 to participate in the Corvette Corral activities in conjunction with the Grand Prix practice an qualifying and the Detroit Sports Car Challenge Race.

We split up into two separate caravans for the trip “downtown” – I-96 was the quicker route!! We arrived on the Island at around 7:40 am to dense fog and great camaraderie with fellow Corvette owners. The hospitality tent provided coffee, drinks and snacks and The GM Corvette team was there with presentations from Tom Wallace and others. The shopping at the many vendors on site vendors for souvenirs and Corvette apparel was great. The racing was loud and exciting and George and Doug worked their way into the Corvette Paddock area to get a first hand view of the C6R’s and talk with the crew.

The day ended with a parade lap around the 21/4 mile course – it IS tight!

Hope more of you can join us at the event in 2009.

Thanks to George for the note and photos.
